English version: Dumaguete and Moalboal

2 mei 2017 - Palawan, Filipijnen

Hi everyone, time for a new blog.

It's hot....really really hot in Dumaguete, our Monday morning starts with the hunt for breakfast, we jump on the scooter and find some after about an hour. Since it's about 35 degrees with around 90% humidity, we decide to spend most of the day in our air conditioned room, great chance to just Netflix. In the evening we head out to the dock to have dinner at a place called Hayahay a recommendation from Karim, turns out he knows his stuff.

We wake up, feeling refreshed and not sweaty as the last couple of weeks, we decide it's time to go do some cool stuff.. on the list for today.. Carorro Falls, about an hour bike ride about 4km up a mountain to get there, the trip alone is already worth it, with views over the whole forest and city. As we get to the entrance, we are actually the only people there, we get greeted by a 70 odd year old lady without teeth, we pay the 20 pence fee, and ask for directions. In broken English she replies with "down the steps and then walk the path" okay.... seems easy right? Wrong! We walk down about 300 steps (which is not nice in 35 degrees) and we can hear the waterfall, or so we think. Follow the path, some locals greet us, and point in the direction we're supposed to go, we start climbing, and as we progress the path becomes, well... there's no more path...haha it takes us another 1,5 hour to get to the waterfall, but believe me... it was so worth it! Now I'm not a waterfall expert, nor claim to be, but this thing is unreal... it's almost as high as the trees, at least 30 meters high, and we're the only people there!! High on waterfall amazement, we forgot that we still had to go back... but now we had to go up.. I can tell you, we drank 3 liters of water in that time, that should say enough. In the evening we chill out at Hayahay again, great food shit cover band, our Phillipino tradition.

It's time to make a move to Moalboal, pronounced mO-ALL bO- ALL, just in case you were wondering. For the journey we take a Tricycle - boat - tricycle - bus - tricycle, just writing it down cracks me up, we're talking about 50 miles here, gotta love the Phillipines;) As we arrive, in the Sisters Inn, we unpack our stuff and venture into town, this place has a very chilled vibe, sort of a forgotten beach town, about as much inhabitants as backpackers, we immediately like it here. We go out for some Thai Green curry, after dinner we end up in "Chili Bar" the number 1 backpackers hotspot/bar, it's Wednesday night and packed, we like the buzz and order some vodkas, 1 turns into about 4 and then we get talking to some locals. They're nice, we start drinking with them and sharing stories, after a while we realize that 1 of them is the son of the Mayor in Moalboal, our luck;-) They enjoy our company and decide to get us as drunk as possible..... Buckets...shots...more buckets and you guessed it more shots, I guarantee you...I've never been so drunk in my life...and for the people reading this that know me and Nadine well, that says a lot. We conquer the dance floor, and show our new friends our shitty dance moves, they reply with more buckets and DRINK DRINK!!! Pff, we head out... the 10 min walk takes about 45, and in the midst of this, we steal a bikini, and fall! The next day we feel our damage... the hangover from hell and Nadine's leg is busted up. Oh dear, we went a little to hard on that one. The remainder of the day we do virtually nothing, find food when we need to, and I shoot some pool with the locals.

Thursday, hangover cured... yes! Nadine still has trouble walking... we venture out to White Beach (original name:) cool beach where after a 5-7 min walk find a nice private little spot, get out our books and music and chill out. After a while I start burning up a bit, and put on some more sunscreen, still quite hot... hmm odd. In the evening I'm absolutely burned head to toe... and it flipping hurts like hell, apparently I wasn't using sunscreen...it was body lotion with a 25 SPF factor, that some shit store sold to me as sunscreen...thanks. Following day we wake up after a horrible nights sleep due to the fact that my body is still an inferno, and Nadine's leg is still acting up. Head out to a local lounge bar to shoot some pool and grab some lunch, I get my ass kicked by this 12 year old Phillipino kid in pool, he looks at me, strangely sometimes, guess he was wondering why I was completely red;-)

Sunday, it starts out well, our fan dies at 08:00 in the morning, and also the Wifi is gone...hmmm odd. We figure it out, there will be no electricity today in MoalBoal from 08:00 - 17:00, did I tell you that it's still 35 degrees... haha, great! As true troopers, we go the nearby mall, which as we thought has a back up generator, we stroll around in the aircon loving life! We also manage to buy actual SPF 50 sunscreen.. winning! As  we go back into town, we go to the same lounge bar and shoot some pool, we're flying to Palawan tomorrow, and have just decided to go by taxi to the airport, which takes 3 hours, instead of the 5-7 hours by public transport. It's more expensive, but so worth it we conclude, as I'm shooting pool by myself, a guy asks to join, I accept and we start chatting, he's telling me that he's flying to Palawan as well tomorrow, and he's on the exact same flight... haha God must love us... we convince him to jump in the taxi with us, shaving 1/3 off the price! We play some more pool, and have dinner with our old friend from Bohol, Sven;-) Beat and Martina also join us, loving the backpacker life!

I'm writing this as we're descending in to Palawan airport, so the taxi journey went well:-) Lined up for this weeks is some exciting stuff, Underground cave(1 of the 7 world wonders), island hopping in El Nido, chilling in Port Barton and Japanese shipwreck diving in Coron, be sure to check out the new photos. Unsure when I'll be able to get this online since the power only works from 18:00 - 22:00 in Palawan, but hopefully soon;-)

Hope we speak soon and that you enjoy our little blogs!
